There are several aspects of respect which needs to be understood, analysed, interpreted and adopted. The meaning of respect is to be kind and considerate to all others around in the society (S=A-I). Everyone wants to be respected. To earn and deserve respect, one must also show respect to others around self in the society including family, relatives, friends, teachers, colleagues as boss, subordinate and pears. The feelings of respect convey the purity of heart, cool mind and excellent behaviour of an individual.
The daily greetings in the morning and obedience are part and parcel of the etiquettes in the society. One can make out the personality and behaviour of an individual on moral and social considerations more than economic status which also matter in present times.
One needs to be motivated for identifying the opportunities in every kind of situation including crisis by respecting self and others. The lack of respect among few if not many is due to their bad deeds in the previous birth and do not possess cool mind. Nothing can motivate such persons who are always negative in their mind-sets.
By giving respect to the people, one can develop good sanskars. One can enjoy pleasures of goodwill around.
Everybody is benefitted by giving and getting respect in the family, elders and teachers. One’s heart can be happy and enthusiastic by doing so. The bottleneck and dirty thoughts can be removed. It leads to positivity and the flow of energy in the environment. Constructive thoughts are developed. Everybody feels motivated. Soul becomes purified and without blame game on anyone around. The good company of friends leads to remove dissatisfaction, discontent, deprivation and distaste. One feels excited to give respect for getting respect in return.
We want to be respected, but we are not sure how this whole thing works. The key here is to stop focusing on I , and start thinking about others. How can we help others? How can we inspire change, growth, and innovation? When we think about the people we respect deeply, what do they do differently from the average person?
To start gaining respect, one of the most important actions is to honour the commitments. If one took commitments lightly in the past, don’t do that anymore. Always keep the promises made to anyone. If one find having a lot of trouble with that, it means one make too many promises one cannot keep.
By respecting others’ time, we will respect ours. This includes not being late for appointments, not spending meetings talking about useless items, getting to the point fast, bringing up issues right away and making it easier for others to make decisions, especially when they are busier than us.
One cannot always be right, and one cannot be the best at everything. Everyone we meet can teach us something. Confidence doesn’t come from a place where one is the best. True confidence comes from understanding humility, and that every person has something unique to offer to the world.
One will be respected if always think of ways and means to offer value to others. Value can come in many forms, but in the end it can help by solving a problem for them. By creating something of value, one can certainly get respect of the people.
We can be inspiring by talking to others about our passions and goals without holding back. We can be inspiring by endlessly encouraging others to follow their dreams, goals, and visions, and showing that we have faith in them.
We should not ignore injustice around for avoiding confrontation. Sometimes we have no choice, but there are moments when we need to stand up for others, especially when they cannot stand up for themselves. We need not to please everyone. Don’t be afraid of confrontation once in a while, as long as we do it in a diplomatic way.
We should care about others and show empathy (not sympathy only) during times of crisis. It shows that we do not only focus on ourselves and have the emotional capability to pay attention and help others when needed. It is so powerful to get respect.
There is always a scope to improve relationships by developing the feelings of respect which is the major feature of the Indian culture. It is necessary for the enjoyment, happiness, progress, prosperity and peace. Friendship improves with respect. The civilizations and cultures to coexist calls for respect for others.
Give respect to all.
