NSCI Trainig Programme on Hazardous Waste Management & Environment Protection
ProgrammeHazardous Waste(HW) is defined as any waste which by reason of any of its physical, chemical, reactive, toxic, flammable, explosive or corrosive characteristics causes danger or is likely to cause danger to health or environment, whether alone or when in contact with other wastes or substances. Hazardous Waste if not handled properly can have serious implication on environment and health of people. Currently it is estimated that about 8 million tonnes of hazardous waste is generated every year in India.
The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has formulated the Hazardous Waste (Management, Handling and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2008 for effective management of HW in India. Original Rules were introduced in 1989 and have been amended from time to time as per National and International a Hazardous Waste Management (HWM) requirements. HWM involves proper collection, safe transportation, adequate storage, environmentally sound treatment and disposal of HW.
This 2-day NSCI Training Programme has been designed to deal with various aspects of HWM.
