Theme for World Water Day 2025

The Permanent Missions of Tajikistan, Barbados, Peru, Senegal, Singapore, Switzerland, and the UAE, along with UNESCO, WMO, UNDESA, UN-Water, IAEA, IUCN, and UNU-INWEH, are organizing a High-Level Celebration of World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day 2025.

As part of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025, a joint celebration of the World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day will be organised to highest the accelerating threat of glacier melt and its impact on water security, communities and ecosystems.

History of World Water Day

World Water Day was first proposed at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNICED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated March 22nd as World Water Day to highlight the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of water resources.
