A session titled “Suraksha Saunskruti: Safety for You” — a step forward in reinforcing our safety-first culture

Thanks to Facilitator: Mr. Amresh Deshmukh Sir (Vice President – HSE)

The "Iceberg of Ignorance" is a concept that illustrates how much of an organization's problems are hidden from upper management. It suggests that while frontline employees are aware of 100% of the issues, top managers are only aware of a small fraction, like the tip of an iceberg. This gap in awareness can lead to poor decision-making and hinder organizational effectiveness the concept:

Frontline Employees:

They see 100% of the problems, as they are directly involved in the daily operations and experience the issues firsthand.

Supervisors:

They are aware of a larger portion of the problems, often acting as a bridge between frontline staff and middle management.

Middle Management:

They are aware of a significant percentage of issues, but still a smaller portion than supervisors.

Upper Management/Executives:

They are only aware of a small percentage of the problems, often just the most visible and pressing ones.

The "Iceberg of Ignorance" highlights the importance of open communication, feedback mechanisms, and a culture that encourages employees to voice concerns without fear of reprisal. By addressing this gap in knowledge, organizations can improve safety, efficiency, and overall performance.
