President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa meets with the Prime Minster of India, Manmohan Singh

Within the framework of activities at the VII Leaders’ Summit of the Group of 20, the President of Mexico, President Felipe Calderón, met today with the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, in order to reinforce high-level bilateral political dialogue.
During the meeting, President Calderón thanked the Prime Minister of India for participating in the Leaders’ Summit in Los Cabos. The two leaders agreed on the urgent need for G20 members to work consistently on behalf of restoring the international economy and establishing the bases for sustainable development.
The President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of India highlighted the promotion of reciprocal investments and the need to deepen scientific and technical cooperation, specifically in regard to the generation of new, renewable energies.
The Prime Minister of India congratulated Mexico on its leadership in the preparations of the G20 Leaders’ Summit and expressed his complete confidence in the organization of the work sessions.
Within this context, they discussed the current economic situation and the need to provide more resources for international financial organizations, particularly the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Bilateral links between Mexico and India have reached an excellent level. In 2011, India was Mexico’s 16th largest trading partner in the world and the sixth largest in the Asia-Pacific region. Bilateral trade rose 40.8 percent last year from $2.806 billion dollars in 2010 to $4.154 billion dollars in 2011.
During the meeting, President Felipe Calderón was accompanied by his official delegation.
