The UN-Energy Plan of Action Towards 2025 is a framework for collective action to accelerate progress on energy access and climate change. The plan aims to achieve the following goals by 2025:
Energy access: Provide electricity to 500 million more people and clean cooking solutions to 1 billion more people
Renewable energy: Increase global renewable energy capacity by 100%
Clean energy investment: Double global annual clean energy investment
Energy efficiency: Create 30 million jobs in renewable energy and energy efficiency
Climate change: Avoid new coal power plans after 2021
The plan includes seven work areas, such as:
Scaling up collective action to close the energy access gap
Catalyzing multi-stakeholder partnerships
Leading by example by greening UN-Energy operations
Providing analytical inputs and policy guidance to key intergovernmental processes
Other global energy policy initiatives for 2025 include:
Accelerating the construction of an energy system based on low-carbon energy
Promoting the development and utilization of renewables
Investing in a range of clean energy technologies
Building more flexibility into energy systems
Ensuring clean energy supply chains are diverse and resilient
Directing more investments into emerging and developing economies
