John Cockerill Commences the Construction of the First Alkaline Electrolyser Giga-Factory in the US

Belgium-based John Cockerill started the construction of the first alkaline electrolyzer gigafactory in the United States. The alkaline electrolyzer gigafactory will be constructed in Baytown, nearby Houston. Furthermore, the gigafactory will produce 1 GW per year of electrolyzers.
John Cockerill Ground Breaking Ceremony
Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo, CEO of the John Cockerill Group Francois Michel, and President of John Cockerill Americas Nicolas de Coignac attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new gigafactory. In october the company unveiled its plans to set up a 1 GW electrolyser factory in Houston
The company acquired a pre-existing structure, which has facilitated the factory's expeditious development. Furthermore, the company will begin assembling machines by 2024.
François Michel, CEO of John Cockerill, said: “We at John Cockerill look forward to growing our presence in the hydrogen sector in North America, following in the footsteps of many other large-scale activities that we have established in the US in the energy, heavy industry, and defense sectors since 2004.”
To encourage the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies, the United States government has implemented funding programs, tax incentives, and research investments, among other initiatives and policies, to bolster the hydrogen sector In particular, the Inflation Reduction Act played a pivotal role in John Cockerill’s new venture. Recently, the US government announced its plans to develop green hydrogen hubs across the country.
