Afforestation vs. Reforestation

 Afforestation vs. Reforestation đŸŒąđŸŒŗ

Afforestation.

Meaning: Planting trees in an area where there were no previous forests (non-forest land).

Purpose: To create a new forest ecosystem.

Example: Converting barren land, deserts, or unused agricultural land into forest by planting trees.

Reforestation.

Meaning: Planting trees in an area where forests once existed but were destroyed/cleared (due to deforestation, fire, logging, etc.).

Purpose: To restore the lost forest.

Example: Planting trees in a logged forest area to bring it back to its natural state.

✅ Key difference:

Afforestation = Creating a forest where none existed.

Reforestation = Restoring a forest that was lost.

📌 Easy way to remember:

Afforestation = Add a forest where there was none.

Reforestation = Rebuild a forest where one existed before.
