April 22 has been recognised as Earth Day
since the mid 1970's. It is an opportunity to think about the planet
from all angles, the big picture, the small picture and our valuable
place within it. The Earth Day Network
is all about sharing peoples actions and motivating change. Heres a few

Today is Earth Day!
And as a surprise to the children of the community, I will be visiting
schools in the Mansfield electorate all day to give a quick talk about
the importance of preserving the environment and helping plant trees and
veggies gardens in their grounds. So make sure you do something for the
environment today, no matter how big or small.

This Friday the world is celebrating Earth Day.
It should be a day of rejoicing that we still have Mother Earth to live
on, a day of action to make our earth a better place, and a day of
reflection of how we managed to get into the mess we are in. Looking
around we see greed and not caring playing havoc on our environment.
Many people are caring but still too many, including corporations and
politicians, only take take take without considering giving something
back. Well, we better wake up soon - otherwise this lonely ship that
sails through the cosmos will soon sink - and there will be no life
boats! So I wish a Happy Earth Day to all - and lets carry on caring after Friday. Meanwhile, a bit of reflection

So, I have mixed feelings about Earth Day
when it comes to our little ones. I really don't want them to be
overwhelmed with the big issues like climate change, endangered species,
and the plight of the rainforests. I think there are gentle was to
bring these issues up but really want kids to develop a love of nature
right where they find themselves.
I would encourage you to focus on the delight in nature, gratefulness to have this amazing planet to call home, and caring for our fellow inhabitants and decrease the focus on "saving the environment" when it comes to our little kiddos.
