Here are some things to know about AM Green Ammonia Pvt Ltd: Green ammonia production

AM Green is developing a green ammonia platform in Kakinada, India, with a production capacity of 1 million tons in the first phase and 5 million tons per annum by 2030.

Green hydrogen production

AM Green's planned production is equivalent to 1 million tons per annum of green hydrogen, which would meet 20% of India's and 10% of Europe's green hydrogen targets.

Decarbonization-AM Green's green ammonia and other green molecules can help decarbonize industries such as refineries, shipping, fertilizers, power generation, and chemicals.

CertifHy pre-certification -AM Green's Kakinada facility was the first Indian project to receive CertifHy pre-certification for its green ammonia plant.

The total investment for AM Green Ammonia's green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh is estimated to be between ₹13,000-15,000 crore ($1.5 billion). The investment is split equally between debt and equity. The equity is coming from Gentari, GIC of Singapore, and ADIA.

Here are some other details about the project:

Partners-AM Green Ammonia is partnering with John Cockerill for advanced pressurized alkaline electrolyzers.

Goals -The project aims to produce 1 million tons of green ammonia annually by 2026, and 5 million tons by 2030.

Exports-The majority of the production will be exported to Europe.

Energy supply-AM Green Ammonia has signed a long-term agreement with SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) for the supply of 4,500 megawatts (MW) of carbon-free energy.

The Romans called ammonium chloride sal ammoniacus (sal ammoniacus: salt of Amun). It was first found near the temple of Amun (Greek Ἄμμων Ammon) in ancient Libya. Ammonium was introduced to Muslim alchemists as early as the 8th century in the form of sal ammoniac. It was first introduced by the Persian chemist Jābir ibn Hayyān, and by European alchemists in the 13th century. Dyers are known to have used them in the Middle Ages. In the 15th century, Basilius Valentinus showed that ammonia was produced by the chemical reaction of alkalis and sal ammoniac.

Joseph Priestley first isolated ammonia gas in 1774. He named it alkaline air. 11 years later, Claude Louis Berthollet, 1785 described the ratio of elements and molecules in ammonia.

The Haber–Bosch process to produce ammonia from nitrogen in the air was developed by Fritz Haber and Karl Bosch in 1909. A patent for this production method was obtained in 1910. Ammonia was first produced in Germany during World War I by the Haber-Bosch method. Ammonia was produced in Germany in the above manner as nitrates were imported from Chile during the war. Ammonia thus produced was used to make explosives for war purposes.
