Slip, Trip, and Fall (STF) Hazards:
Slip, trip, and fall incidents are among the most common causes of workplace injuries.
1. Slip
A slip occurs when there is too little friction or traction between the footwear and the walking surface.
Common Causes:
Wet or oily surfaces, Spills,
Smooth flooring materials, Poor housekeeping, Worn-out or improper footwear
Control Measures:
1. Clean spills immediately
2. Use slip-resistant flooring or mats.
3. Display “Wet Floor” signs
4. Wear non-slip footwear
5. Apply anti-slip coatings or tapes.
2. Trip
A trip occurs when a person’s foot hits an object, causing them to lose balance and fall.
Common Causes:
Uncovered cables or wires, Cluttered walkways, Uneven flooring or loose carpets, Poor lighting, Broken tiles or steps.
Control Measures:
1. Keep pathways clear and well-organized
2. Secure cables and cords
3. Repair uneven surfaces
4. Provide adequate lighting
5. Conduct regular housekeeping and inspections.
3. Fall
A fall occurs when a person drops to a lower level, either from a height or on the same level (due to slipping or tripping).
Common Causes:
Improper use of ladders, No guardrails on elevated platforms, Defective stairs or railings, Inadequate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Control Measures:
1. Use proper fall protection (harnesses, guardrails)
2. Ensure ladders/scaffolds are in good condition and used properly
3. Provide training on fall hazards
