A lower TRIR means better safety performance.

📌 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐑 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 – 𝐔𝐒𝐀 (𝐎𝐒𝐇𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝)

TRIR = (Total Recordable Injuries × 200,000) ÷ Total Man-hours

The value 200,000 is a constant representing the annual hours worked by 100 full-time workers.

📌 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐑 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 – 𝐔𝐊 (𝐇𝐒𝐄 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝)

TRIR = (Total Recordable Injuries × 100,000) ÷ Total Man-hours

Here, 100,000 is used because the UK calculation is based on 50 full-time workers.

Only these three categories are recordable:

𝐌𝐓𝐂 – Medical Treatment Case

𝐑𝐖𝐂 – Restricted Work Case

𝐋𝐓𝐈 – Lost Time Injury

❌ 𝐅𝐒𝐂 (First Aid Case) is NOT recordable.

If you have:

2 MTC

1 RWC

1 LTI

Total Recordable Injuries = 4

Total Man-hours = 2,500,000

TRIR = (4× 200,000) ÷ 2500,000) = 0.32

TRIR = (T4 × 100,000) ÷ 2,500,000 = 0.16

👉 USA TRIR = 0.32

👉 UK TRIR = 0.16
