Passivation Air in CO2 Compressor at Snamprogetti Method

Passivation Air in CO2 Compressor at Snamprogetti Method

Unread post by Miftahhifz »

Dear Urea team,

Does anyone has information if it would be possible that there is no passivation air flow into the CO2 compressor,
or how long the urea process can still work safely without passivation air into the CO2 Compressor in a Snamprogetti urea plant?

We know the process requires at least 0.25-0.3 %vol O2 passivation air to avoid the corrosion (The information is going to be used for maintenance if the passivation air blower is being serviced, but we still want the urea process to keep in operation)

If you have more details you could share. Evaluation methodology could also be shared. feel free to use any assumptions of the process conditions if it's required. and thanks for the knowledge that been shared.

Without air No Licenser of Urea Process allows to operate the plant for a single minute. The air compressor/blower is installed in spares (two units). At a time both units are not able to run, improve your maintenance. However it is depends also on the MOC of the Liner material. Nowaday’s M/S Saipem uses 2RE69 (25/22/2) in urea reactor instead of 316L (Urea grade). Without air it is very risky the liner will corrode in bottom area of the reactor. It can be observed when you will open reactor for inspection in Shut down.
Anyway, you can increase N/C (4:1) ratio and increase air flow in stripper.
