SCBA specification include the type of cylinder, the pressure, the mask, and the harness. SCBA must be approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
Cylinder
The cylinder may be made of aluminum lined, carbon composite material
The cylinder may have a minimum water capacity and free air capacity
The cylinder may have an adjustable outlet pressure
Mask
The mask may be a mouthpiece, half mask, or full-face mask
The mask may be made of scratch proof materials that don't cause dermatitis
The mask may be designed to fit various sizes
Harness
The harness may be made of extra heavy duty and non-flammable aramid fibers
The harness may have insulating tunnels on the shoulder pads to protect the air line from heat and fire
Other specifications
The SCBA may have an RFID chip for asset and maintenance tracking
The SCBA may have an audible warning alarm
The SCBA may have an integrated indication of air pressure, ambient temperature, and remaining time
The SCBA may be water proof
The SCBA may come with an operation manual in English
SCBA is used in emergencies when there is an oxygen deficiency, a hazardous chemical, or when it's deemed necessary by emergency response personnel.
