Action
plan essential to face industrial disasters: Collector

Kakinada: Each and every industry and organisation should formulate a plan to prevent disasters and should preserve it with all the details, East Godavari District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad said here on Friday. She attended the workshop on Industrial Disaster Risk Reduction Management, held under the aegis of District Disaster Management Authority, Chief Inspector of Factories and NFCL, at NFCL in Kakinada on Friday.
Speaking
on this occasion, Neetu Kumari Prasad said that calamities are being dealt with
successfully with the cooperation of industries and organisations in the
district and recalled how accidents like Pallam fire and the sinking of Syamala
Sadan Apartment, with the support of various industries.
She said
that the industries as well as the district machinery would have to face the
consequences if disasters were not dealt with properly. She made it clear that
no industry can tackle disasters independently without the support of the
district machinery. She stressed the need for the cooperation between the
government, industries and organization to prevent industrial and other
accidents.
The Collector stressed the need for clear action plan in the form of documentation to face the accidents that occur in various industries. She said that it is very important for industry to have a clear action plan to deal with any eventuality and made it clear that it is not possible to cope with disasters without prior action plan. For example, an action plan has been prepared in the form of a book, to face calamities like cyclones and floods with details of duties of various departments and phone numbers, she said.

She opined
that it is easy for industries to prevent accidents by preparing an action plan
as per manual. She observed that these kinds of workshops would create
awareness on the steps to be taken to prevent industrial disasters and
suggested to the industry to take this issue very seriously.

The District Disaster Management Authority, in association with
the Inspector of Factories, Kakinada region, conducted a workshop on
‘Industrial Disaster Risk Reduction/Management’ on the premises of Nagarjuna
Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited here on Friday.
Collector Neetu Prasad, who was the chief guest, stressed the
need for disaster preparedness in the industries. She felt that the
preparedness would help reduce the losses during the exigencies. Superintendent
Police C.M. Trivikram Varma underscored the need for putting a communication
system in place, which would help the effective management of crisis. Deputy
Chief Inspector of Factories J. Sivasankar Reddy, Inspector of Factories P.
Chinna Rao, vice-president of the NFCL R. Raghavan and others were present
