What is a Lifting Operation?
A lifting operation means raising, lowering, or moving a load using equipment like:
Crane
Mobile crane
Tower crane
Forklift
Chain block
Hoist
It includes rigging, slinging, and guiding the load.
👉 Example: Lifting steel beam, shuttering material, generator, rebar bundle.
🔧 Types of Lifting Operations
1️⃣ By Equipment
• Crane Lifting
Using mobile crane or tower crane.
• Forklift Lifting
Used for pallets, blocks, small materials.
• Hoist Lifting
Material hoist for vertical lifting.
• Chain Block / Manual Lifting
For small loads in confined areas.
2️⃣ By Method
• Vertical Lift
Load goes straight up/down.
• Slewing Lift
Crane rotates with load.
• Tandem Lift
Two cranes lifting one load (critical lift).
• Blind Lift
Operator cannot see load → needs banksman.
• Critical Lift
High-risk lift (heavy load, near building, near power line).
⚠️ Lifting Safety Points
📋 Before Lifting
✔️ Approved lifting plan
✔️ Valid crane third-party certificate
✔️ Valid operator license
✔️ Rigging inspection (slings, shackles, hooks)
✔️ Ground stability checked
✔️ SWL not exceeded
✔️ Toolbox talk done
👷 During Lifting
✔️ Use trained rigger and banksman
✔️ Barricade lifting area
✔️ No one under suspended load
✔️ Use tag line to control load
✔️ Slow and smooth lifting
✔️ Maintain safe distance from power lines
✔️ Proper communication (hand signals or radio)
⛔ Never Do
❌ Stand under load
❌ Use damaged sling
❌ Exceed crane capacity
❌ Lift without banksman
❌ Sudden crane movement
👷 Required Lifting Team
Lifting Supervisor
Crane Operator
Rigger
Banksman / Signalman
📊 Simple Lifting Flow
1️⃣ Check certificate & ground
2️⃣ Inspect rigging
3️⃣ Fix load properly
4️⃣ Test lift (few cm)
5️⃣ Main lifting
6️⃣ Land load safely
