High alert has been sounded in East Godavari district to deal with the impact of the cyclonic storm 'Phailin', which is expected to cause damage in coastal districts of the state.

RAJAHMUNDRY: High alert has been sounded in East Godavari district to deal with the impact of the cyclonic storm 'Phailin', which is expected to cause damage in coastal districts of the state.

"In view of 'Phailin' cyclone, high alert has been declared in east Godavari district to safe guard the public and property in low-lying areas," an official release here tonight.

Necessary equipment, material and men are kept ready to evacuate the public to safer places and to meet the contingencies. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

District Collector Neethu Prasad has asked the Revenue, Irrigation, Police and other departments in the region to be vigilant and to keep the necessary equipment ready.

Special control rooms have been opened at Kakinada, Rajahmundry and at Amalapuram by the transport department to provide vehicles in case of emergency.

The district collector said that 63 relief camps have been set up in the district and 13 special officers have been deployed to monitor the situation on the sea coast.
