Subject: Earth Day

Dear Sir,
Wish you a very happy Earth day to take continuous innovative steps , regarding Awareness of  Environment, health , Safety . Quality  under management Systems  ISOs  (9001, 14001) , OHSAS -18001, PSMS, RCMS (14001-2008)
What’s Earth Day?
On April 22, 1970, 20 million people across America took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums in observance of the first Earth Day. It was a time when cities were buried under their own smog and polluted rivers caught fire

Earth Day was organized to promote the ideas of ecology, encourage respect for life on earth, and highlight the growing concern over pollution of the soil, air, and water. The goal was to bring about environmental reform
Thousands of colleges and universities organized protests against the deterioration of the environment. Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values.
The first Earth Day led to the creation of many important laws passed by US Congress. These include the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts.

As 1990 approached Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting the status of environmental issues on to the world stage.

Earth Day 1990 gave a huge boost to recycling efforts worldwide and helped pave the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

Solution for the issues:
        Greenhouse effect and Global Warming:
n        Plant more and more trees. As trees absorb more carbon dioxide it will help. Trees also help in bringing rain. Avoid the use of plastics as much as can.
n        Walking, riding your bicycle, or taking he bus instead of always going by car.
n        Not wasting electricity (turn off the lights, the radio, the TV and the computer when you're not using them).
n        Reducing, reusing or recycling all kinds of items, from soda pop cans to clothes, to save energy and raw materials.
n        Planting trees to help absorb excess CO2, and to provide shade and windbreaks to keep buildings at more even temperatures so they will require less energy for heating or cooling.
n        Clean Energy:
n        Water Purification:
n        Waste Management is continuously working together within the community to increase recycling efforts.
n        We strongly encourage you to participate by placing all acceptable recycling materials in your designated recycling cart and place it curbside on your regularly scheduled service day.
Just remember the 3 R’s –
REDUCE, REUSE, & RECYCLE!

n        · REDUCE: your generations of products through smart procurement and good maintenance. · REUSE: still functioning products. · RECYCLE: the items by donating or selling it to someone or a local organization.
n        Conserve energy - turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room.
n        Recycle paper, plastic, glass bottles, cardboard, and aluminum cans. (This conserves energy and reduces production emissions.)
n        Plant deciduous trees in locations around your home to provide shade in the summer, but to allow light in the winter.
n        Wash clothes with warm or cold water instead of hot.
n        Buy ENERGY STAR products, including energy efficient lighting and appliances. They are environmentally friendly products.
n        Choose efficient, low-polluting models of vehicles.
n        Shop with a canvas bag instead of using paper and plastic bags.
n        Buy rechargeable batteries for devices used frequently.
n        When possible, use public transportation, walk, or ride a bike.
n        Report smoking vehicles to your local air agency.
n        Remove indoor asthma triggers from your home and avoid outdoor triggers in order to effectively control your asthma.
Conserve Habitats, Make Space For Our Wildlife, Recycle, Reduce, And Reuse, Plant Native Plants That Are Local To The Area , Control Introduced Plants And Animals etc.  THE BEST EXAMPLE IS OUR GREEN BELT DEER PARK.
n        We all know how important water is for survival. Without water there can be no life on earth. But fresh water levels in many parts of the world have dropped alarmingly. Water shortage is a growing concern across the globe. So, we need to make a conscious effort to save water. These tips would help you save gallons of fresh water everyday. Water conservation is very important.
Some ways to conserve water at house :
n        Check faucets and pipes for leaks
n        Don't use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket
n        Check your toilets for leaks
n        Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow faucet aerators
n        Put plastic bottles or float booster in your toilet tank
n        Take shorter showers.
n        Turn off the water after you wet your toothbrush
n        Use your dishwasher and clothes washer for only full loads
n        Minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units
n        Plant drought-resistant lawns, shrubs and plants
n        Water your lawn only when it needs it
n        Add organic matter and use efficient watering systems for shrubs, flower beds and lawns
n        Don't run the hose while washing your car
n        These tips would help you save gallons of fresh water everyday.
These all solutions need to be implemented by locally, regionally, nationally, or globally.
