The National Green Hydrogen Mission is a program launched by the Government of India to make the country a global leader in producing, using, and exporting green hydrogen. The mission aims to:
Reduce carbon emissions: Green hydrogen is a clean energy source that can replace fossil fuels in transportation and industry. The mission aims to reduce India's dependence on fossil fuel imports and decarbonize the economy.
Create jobs: The mission is expected to create over six lakh jobs.
Develop supply chains: The mission will support the development of supply chains to transport and distribute hydrogen.
Support pilot projects: The mission will support pilot projects in sectors like steel, shipping, and energy storage.
Develop regulations: The mission will develop regulations and standards to support the emerging technology.
Establish Green Hydrogen Hubs: The mission will identify regions that can support large-scale production and utilization of hydrogen.
Create a public-private partnership: The mission will facilitate a public-private partnership for R&D.
The mission was launched on January 4, 2023 with a budget allocation of Rs. 19,744 crores. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the mission
