UNDERSTANDING SOIL PH
Soil pH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline soil is. It's measured on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral.
What do the numbers mean?
Below 7: The soil is acidic. The lower the pH, the more
acidic the soil.
Above 7: The soil is alkaline.
7: The soil is neutral.
How does pH affect plants?
Acidic soil
Can make it harder for plants to access nutrients like calcium and magnesium. It can also make aluminum, iron, and manganese more available, which can be toxic to plants.
Alkaline soil
Can make it harder for plants to access phosphorus. It can also cause zinc and cobalt deficiencies, which can lead to poor growth.
