Good morning Farmers, there is an app called AgPhd which give information on nutrients removal from the soil by specific crops and the 1st person who made me know about is my good friend Kisove Enterprises who is a soil scientist.
It is important to know that farming has the greatest multiplier effect because, you plant a handful of seeds and harvest a truck full of produce 🤔 . How does it happen?
Plants uses the sun energy , oxygen, carbon dioxide plus the nutrients uptaken from the soil in solution form to manufacture tons and tons of food that sustain humanity..
Plants are therefore natural manufacturers of human food and I am sure that's why heavy machines or a machines that manufacture goods are called Plants 🤭.
So ,let's agree that Plants are natural machines and when you plant seeds , you simply install machines for human or livestock food production on the ground 😅 and when the crop matures , people come for it and give you cash as a token for compensation 😅. If you think about this , then you would realize that farmers are employed by God to feed humanity.
God in his wisdom put the crop information in a seed which manifest to true to type on planting and being exposed to the right conditions , this is amazing!
Let's go back to our main subject of nutrients removal. If you want to know the nutrients removed by a specific crop , you select the crop and then insert the projected yields per ha in Tons and the nutrients will be shown in kgs .
Once you start realising that farming is a game of mining the soil then you will start appreciating how we under fertlize our soil . Under applying of fertiliser could be our greatest undoing in crop production.
This morning, I checked the quantity of nutrients removed by 1ha of cabbages and I couldn't believe my eyes 🤭.
For purposes of this discussion and to demonstrate the magnitude of removal, let me take an example of Nitrogen.
1ha fits in 40,000 cabbages at an average weight of 2kgs = 80t ( including those that do not form )
Total Nitrogen removal = 312kg!
When making a fertiliser program, you consider what is removed and add about 10 to 15% for soil maintenance.
If we are to replace the Nitrogen uptaken by cabbages from the soil ,using C.A.N , how many bags of 50kgs do we require per ha ?
312 x 115% = 358kgs .
100kgs of C.A.N contains 26kgs of N , how many bags of C.A.N do we require?
(358 /26 ×100 )/50 = 27 bags of C.A.N
P.
