During & After Concrete Casting.
During & After Concrete Casting
- Concrete is the backbone of every structure. To achieve the desired strength, durability, and quality, proper checks and controls are essential before, during, and after casting. Civil engineers and site teams must follow these best practices:
- Before Casting
1. Ensure formwork is clean, properly aligned, well-supported, and leak-proof.
2. Confirm reinforcement is fixed as per drawings, free from rust, oil, or loose scale.
3. Check cover blocks, spacing, and clearances meet specifications.Verify levels, dimensions, and required approvals/quality checks before concreting starts.
- During Casting
1. Place concrete carefully in layers, avoiding segregation of aggregates.Use adequate compaction/vibration to eliminate air voids and ensure density.
2. Maintain continuous pouring to avoid cold joints and weak zones.
3. Monitor and supervise mix consistency, slump/workability, and placement methods throughout casting.
-After Casting
1. Protect fresh concrete against direct sunlight, wind, and rain immediately after placement.
2. Start curing as soon as the surface sets, and continue for at least 7–14 days (depending on grade and specifications).
3. Remove formwork only after sufficient strength gain as per IS code/structural engineer’s guidance.
4. Inspect surface finish and take corrective measures for defects such as honeycombs, voids, or cracks.
