Electrical Safety Awareness – One Mistake Can Be Fatal

⚡ Electrical Safety Awareness – One Mistake Can Be Fatal

Risk Control

🛑 Electricity is silent but deadly.

You can’t see it, you can’t smell it but one unsafe act can cause shock, burns, fire, or death.

❌ Common Electrical Hazards

Exposed live wires

Overloaded circuits & equipment

Wet conditions near electrical systems

Using damaged cables, plugs, or tools

Working without proper isolation (LOTO)

Poor earthing/grounding

Unauthorized repair or unsafe connections

✅ Safety Precautions

1. Inspection First – Always check tools, plugs, extension boards before use.

2. Dry & Safe Area – Never touch electrical equipment with wet hands or in damp areas.

3. Correct Rating – Use proper fuse, MCB, circuit breaker for load capacity.

4. PPE – Wear insulating gloves, arc-rated face shield, dielectric boots where required.

5. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) – De-energize equipment before maintenance or repair.

6. Earthing & Bonding – Ensure all systems are grounded properly.

7. Safe Distance – Maintain clearance from overhead power lines.

8. Training – Only qualified electricians should work on live systems.

9. Emergency Readiness – Keep CO₂ / dry powder fire extinguishers for electrical fire.

10. No Overloading – Avoid multiple devices on one socket.

📄 Standards & SDS Awareness

NFPA 70 (NEC) – National Electrical Code (safe wiring & installation)

NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace (Arc Flash protection)

OSHA 1910 Subpart S – Electrical safety regulations

SDS (for Batteries, Oils, Chemicals in Panels) – Always check hazards like acid, flammable vapors.
