They act as a crucial link between the permit issuer and the workers to guarantee compliance with all safety protocols and operational guidelines.  

Key Responsibilities

Permit Authorization and Verification: Review and understand the work permit, ensuring all necessary precautions, approvals, and safety measures are in place and align with the specific type of work (e.g., hot work, confined space). 

Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards and ensure that appropriate control measures are implemented before work begins. 

Implementation of Safety Protocols: Verify that all workers involved in the job understand the permit conditions and adhere strictly to all safety rules and procedures, such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). 

Pre-Job Safety Briefings: Conduct safety briefings to ensure all personnel are aware of the job scope and how to perform it safely. 

Site Supervision: Conduct regular inspections during the work to monitor activities, ensure compliance with permit conditions, and ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and emergency equipment are used. 

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work permits, including modifications, extensions, and closures, which are crucial for safety audits and continuous improvement. 

Emergency Response Coordination: Play a key role in coordinating emergency response efforts in case of an accident or equipment failure during the work. 

Worksite Restoration: Ensure proper housekeeping and that the work area is cleaned and returned to a safe, operational condition upon completion. 

Permit Closure: Coordinate with the permit issuer to sign off and formally close the work permit once the work is safely completed.
