Anything with the potential to cause harm (injury, illness, damage to property, environment, etc.).

*Example:* 

Wet floor, electricity, chemicals, heavy machinery.

• *Risk:*

 The likelihood (probability) that a hazard will actually cause harm, combined with the severity of the possible consequences.

*Example:* 

The risk of slipping on a wet floor depends on how wet it is, how many people walk there, and whether precautions are taken
