In running ropes, twelve randomly distributed broken wires in one lay or four broken wires in one stand in one lay.

One or more outer wire at the contact point with the core of the rope which has worked its way out of the rope structure and protrudes or loops out from the rope structure.

Wear of 1/3 the original diameter of outside individual wires.

Kinking, crushing, bird caging, or any other damage resulting in distortion of the rope structure.

Evidence of heat/chemical damage .

Reduction from nominal diameter greater than those listed in the Maximum Allowable Reduction Table.

Attention shall be given to end connections.  Upon development of two broken wires adjacent to a soceked end connection, the rope should be resocketed or replaced.  Resocketing shall not be attempted if the resulting rope length will be insufficient for proper operations.

Replacement rope and connections shall have a strength rating at least as great as the original rope and connections furnished by the hoist manufacturer.  Any deviation from the original size, grade, or construction shall be specified by a rope manufacturer, the hoist manufacturer, or a qualified person.

In standing ropes, more than two wires in one lay in sections beyond end connections or more than one broken wire in one lay  at an end connection.
