New Delhi, Jan. 26:
Come Sunday evening, politicians, economists and business honchos from
across the world will gather in the city of the Taj to brainstorm on
ways to beat the global downturn.
Delegates from 45 countries, including the US, South Korea, Japan and a
number of African countries, are expected to participate in the
three-day Global Parnership Summit organised by the Confederation of
Indian Industry (CII) in Agra. The summit will be inaugurated by
Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
Trade and industry ministers from various countries will discuss
problems related to policymaking. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand
Sharma is likely to share India’s experiences in tackling effects of the
global downturn, a Ministry official said.
WTO Director General Pascal Lamy, who has been steering the on-going
Doha Round of global trade talks for almost a decade, is expected to
talk about the importance of continuing with liberalisation to deal with
the global crisis. OECD Deputy Secretary General Richard Boucher, World
Intellectual Property Organisation Director General Francis Gurry and
US Under-Secretary (Economic Growth, Energy and Environment) Kristof
Szatmary are also expected to participate in the summit.
