 India Gears Up to Launch Its First Hydrogen Train: Ashwini Vaishnaw




India is preparing to launch its first hydrogen-powered train, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who shared the details in an exclusive interview with newsstation.media

Describing the hydrogen train as a groundbreaking effort, Vaishnaw explained that it is part of India’s initiative to develop and prove a complex technology. He highlighted that hydrogen power can be utilized not only in trains but also in shipping and large vehicles, making it a versatile solution for various modes of transportation.


The Ministry of Railways is currently developing a 1200 horsepower hydrogen technology, with significant progress already made. Vaishnaw also pointed out that this technology has potential applications in the marine sector. “For example, it could be used in tugboats, fishing boats, and other vessels,” he said.


He further mentioned that the design of the hydrogen-powered train is almost complete, and the system integration process is currently underway. Vaishnaw expressed confidence that the hydrogen train service will be operational soon, marking a significant milestone in India’s push for cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
