Nagarjuna Fertilisers commissions CDR plant
Will recover 450 tpd carbon dioxide from flue gas stack.
Our Bureau
Kakinada,
March 24 A carbon dioxide recovery (CDR) plant of 450 tonnes a day
(tpd) capacity was commissioned at the Nagarjuna Fertilisers and
Chemicals Ltd (NFCL) plant here on Tuesday, as the company moves towards
clean development mechanism.
Mr K.S Raju, Chairman
and Managing Director, inaugurated the plant. Senior officials of
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan, attended the function.
Turnkey basis
The order for the CDR plant was placed with Mitsubishi and Tecnimont ICB, Mumbai, on turnkey basis.
Ahead of schedule
Mr
Raju said the project had been completed two months ahead of schedule
and it would help NFCL recover 450 tpd of carbon dioxide from the flue
gas stack, making NFCL eligible for carbon credit through clean
development mechanism. He said quick completion of the project had
become possible due to the co-ordinated efforts of NFCL, Mitsubishi and
Tecnimont officials.
Currently, two units were operating at NFCL, with a total capacity of 12 lakh tonnes of urea a year.
The
commissioning of the CDR plant formed part of the
revamp/de-bottlenecking scheme (phase two) in the plant, Mr Raju said.
The production level would increase by 2 lakh tonnes a year after the
completion of the phase by September.
Naphtha usage
would be stopped, which would reduce the subsidy burden on the
Government. Further, more urea would be available to farmers. Imports
could be reduced.
Another revamp of the production
facilities (phase three) was in the feasibility stage for further
augmentation of the plant capacity, he added.
Mr R.S
Nanda, Director (Operations), Mr R.D Mall, Vice-President, Mr R. Singh,
General Manager, and other officials participated in the function.
