Steam Loss From Steam Trap

Steam Loss From Steam Trap

Steam  loss caused from steam trap will effect the running cost of the plant and stem generation system, it is simple loss of money into air where the heat transfer into surrounding atmosphere. This cost can be estimated when the steam is lost through orifice of steam trap. Steam losses are mainly caused at the joints and the valve steam traps, in most cases steam valves will leak at the stem seal, steam weight loss caused at the boiler level control valve due to the salt deposition on the surface of the pipes and valve which will decrease the diameter and volume of the steam flow through it. Steam chart are used for calculation of the temperature and pressure relation during the design of the equipments like heat exchangers and boilers, steam loss calculator works based on the program which is written based on the steam chart algorithm. Steam flow through pipe is controlled and maintained by the steam control valves and the steam trap which separates the condensate formed in the pipe.
Steam trap insulation must be take care during the installation itself because if these fail most of the steam is lost and they are fitted all along the steam pipe through the industry. Steam pipe heat loss is calculated similarly to the calculation of steam mass and energy balance take around the boiler and to calculate steam flow all through the pipes a rotatmeter can be used which give the reading of physical parameter for energy loss calculator program. Purpose of steam trap is mainly to control the loss of steam and to maintain the steam without condensate and steam trap pressure drop can give an idea on the performance of steam trap. Steam loss calculation are mostly used for including the parameters in designing steam turbine losses.
