Fossil fuel Depletion

Fossil fuels are a finite resource that are being rapidly depleted and are expected to run out within this century:

  • OilSome estimates say that oil can last up to 50 years.
  • Natural gasSome estimates say that natural gas can last up to 53 years.
  • CoalSome estimates say that coal can last up to 114 years.
When Fossil Fuels Run Out, What Then? - MAHB
The depletion of fossil fuels is a growing problem, and there are no alternatives that can replace a significant portion of current use. The burning of fossil fuels also contributes to climate change, which leads to more frequent and severe extreme weather events.
Abiotic depletion potential is a term that refers to the depletion of non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels, minerals, clay, and peat. It's concerned with protecting human health, welfare, and ecosystems.
