🚧 Hierarchy of Controls – Your Roadmap to Risk Reduction 🚧
In Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), we manage hazards using a structured approach called the Hierarchy of Controls — from most effective to least effective:
🔺 1. Elimination – Remove the hazard completely.
✅ Best option!
🧯 Example: Remove a faulty machine from use.
🔺 2. Substitution – Replace the hazard with something safer.
🔄 Example: Use water-based paint instead of solvent-based.
🔺 3. Engineering Controls – Isolate people from the hazard.
🛠️ Example: Machine guards, ventilation systems.
🔺 4. Administrative Controls – Change how people work.
📋 Example: Training, signage, work rotation, SOPs.
🔺 5. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) – Last line of defense.
🦺 Example: Helmets, gloves, safety glasses.
⚠️ PPE alone is not enough! Always try to eliminate or reduce the hazard first.
