Vijayawada: As part of the Swachandra - Swachh Diwas initiative, the state government has declared the theme for April as "E-Check," focusing on the collection of electronic waste from houses, shops, and offices across municipalities and municipal corporations statewide.
Swachh Diwas is observed on the third Saturday of each month, with a unique theme dedicated to cleanliness efforts. On Friday, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), P. Narayana, directed all municipal commissioners to arrange for the successful execution of the Swachandra initiative.
During a teleconference with municipal commissioners, Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar, Swachh Andhra MD Anil Kumar Reddy, and Chairman Pattabhiram, Narayana reaffirmed the goal of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to achieve 100% cleanliness in the state through monthly themed programmes for twelve months. With three months already completed, the focus for this month is on "E-Check."
The initiative emphasizes collective participation, urging municipal commissioners, officials from various departments, and the public to engage actively.
"E-Check" prioritizes the collection and reuse of electronic waste, such as broken mobile phones, TVs, and other devices, from homes and shops in municipalities and rural areas. Special collection centres are being set up in municipalities, converting existing RRR centres into e-waste collection hubs. Self-help groups will oversee e-waste collection at these centres. In exchange for depositing electronic waste, people will receive cash, creating employment opportunities for women.
