Launched to transform the country into a global powerhouse for clean energy production and export, the National Green Hydrogen Mission has mapped out strict, ambitious targets to hit by the year 2030: [1, 2]
Core MetricMission Target (By 2030)
Annual ProductionAt least 5 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of Green Hydrogen.
Associated Renewable CapacityAddition of roughly 125 Gigawatts (GW) of green power to fuel electrolyzers.
Total Capital InvestmentAttracting over ₹8 Lakh Crore ($100B+ USD) in investments.
Economic & Trade ImpactReduction of national fossil fuel imports by more than ₹1 Lakh Crore.
Job CreationGenerating over 6 Lakh clean energy jobs nationwide.
Environmental TargetAverting over 50 MMT of annual greenhouse gas emissions across heavy industry.
As outlined by the Press Information Bureau, “India targets 5 MMT of Green Hydrogen production annually by 2030... The Mission is expected to attract over ₹8 lakh crore in investments and reduce fossil fuel imports by more than ₹1 lakh crore.”
