MHI Environmental Vision 2030

Objectives behind Formulation of Environmental Vision

The MHI Group believes that simultaneous achievement of the 3E's – energy security, environmental protection and economic growth – is invaluable in order to realize a sustainable future for the earth and all mankind.
In June 2012 we formulated the "MHI Environmental Vision 2030" in order to contribute to the realization of the 3E's – and open the way to a sustainable future – through total solutions incorporating our wide-ranging products and technologies applied on land, at sea, in the air and in space.

MHI Environmental Vision 2030
Our Technologies, Your Tomorrow

The future of our planet rests in the sustained evolution of humankind while caring, with love and responsibility, for all life forms that inhabit it. MHI will continue to be a company indispensable to ensuring that future.
Sustainability: Energy Security, Environmental Protection, Economic Growth
The MHI Group will pursue energy security while carrying forward environmental protection -- not only of the earth but of space also - through its ability to develop new technologies and products, to achieve a secure future that is kind to the earth.

Targets of MHI Environmental Vision 2030

Contributions to Realizing the 3E's through Products and Technologies Applied on Land, at Sea, in the Air, and in Space

LAND
1.
MHI aims to develop, and provide worldwide, power generation technologies making more efficient use of fossil fuels. At the same time, the company will also press forward with development of high-efficiency carbon dioxide (CO2) CCS technologies, curb CO2 emissions, and prevent the diffusion of emitted CO2. (Examples: ultra high temperature [1700℃ class] gas turbines, the world's most efficient GTCC and IGCC power generation systems, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), CCS-related technologies such as technology for capturing CO2 from coal-fired flue gas, CO2 compressors, etc.
2.
MHI will further enhance the safety of nuclear power plant, to contribute to energy security and reduction of CO2 emissions.
3.
MHI will develop a broad range of highly efficient products and systems that make use of renewable energies, to contribute to diversification of energy sources and reduction of CO2 emissions.(Examples: hydropower, geothermal, biomass, wind power, etc.)
4.
MHI will pursue the development and widespread adoption of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, high-efficiency heat pumps and other products that will contribute to raising the level of energy management, to promote higher efficiency in final energy consumption.
5.
MHI will provide products and systems that will contribute to resource conservation and energy savings through transportation innovations. (Examples: APM [Automated People Mover], LRT [Light Rail Transit], ITS [Intelligent Transport Systems], etc.)
6.
MHI will contribute to energy savings and conservation of resources through the pursuit of more advanced products used in daily life and industrial activities (air-conditioners, iron & steel manufacturing machinery, compressors, rubber & tire machinery, crane & material handling systems, mechanical parking facilities, machine tools, engines, forklifts, etc.).
7.
MHI will contribute to reductions in CO2 emissions through the development and provision of hollow-head engine valves and turbochargers that enhance automotive fuel efficiency.
8.
MHI will provide advanced technologies and products in the areas of waste treatment, sludge treatment and recycling that contribute to the 3R's (reduce, reuse and recycle), to make effective use of resources.
9.
MHI will propose and support smart community initiatives applying the company's total solutions power.
SEA
10.
MHI will contribute to the development of new marine energy resources and the achievement of global environmental observation systems through the development and construction of autonomous deep-sea vessels, sea bottom resource exploration vessel, etc.
11.
MHI will contribute to diversification of energy sources and reductions in CO2 emissions through broad development of high-efficiency products and systems that make effective use of marine environments: e.g. offshore wind turbines.
12.
MHI will provide marine transportation systems that are more efficient and emit minimal CO2 and environmental pollutants.
(Examples: eco-ships; high-efficiency, environmentally conscious ship propulsion systems; Mitsubishi air lubrication system [MALS], etc.)
13.
MHI will contribute to environmental protection and preservation of biodiversity through proactive proposal and provision of ballast water treatment equipment installations for ships.
14.
MHI will provide more advanced desalination, tap/industrial water production, effluent treatment and water reclamation technologies and equipment, to prevent water pollution and make effective use of water resources.
