The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) is a program by the Government of India to make India a global leader in the production, use, and export of green hydrogen. The mission's goals include:
Reducing fossil fuel dependence
The NGHM aims to reduce India's reliance on imported fossil fuels and feedstock.
Decarbonizing the economy
The NGHM aims to decarbonize India's industrial, mobility, and energy sectors.
Creating jobs
The NGHM aims to create over 6 lakh jobs by 2030.
Developing indigenous manufacturing
The NGHM aims to develop India's indigenous manufacturing capabilities for green hydrogen.
Supporting research and development
The NGHM aims to support research and development projects.
Creating export opportunities
The NGHM aims to create export opportunities for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
Developing supply chains
The NGHM aims to develop supply chains for the efficient transportation and distribution of hydrogen.
Harmonizing with international regulations
The NGHM aims to harmonize with internationally accepted regulations and standards.
The NGHM was approved by the Union Cabinet on January 4, 2022. The initial outlay for the mission is Rs. 19,744 crore.
