The goal of India's National Committee on Transmission (NCT)

 The goal of India's National Committee on Transmission (NCT) is to evaluate the national grid's functioning, review regional power committee recommendations for system expansion, assess the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) plans, and propose long-term (10-15 year) perspective plans for transmission infrastructure development, primarily focusing on approving Inter-State Transmission Schemes (ISTS) within a specified cost range and recommending larger projects to the Ministry of Power for approval; essentially aiming to optimize India's power transmission network by identifying and approving necessary projects to effectively integrate new generation sources like renewable energy.

Function:

Reviews and approves transmission projects, particularly ISTS, within a specific cost bracket. 

Cost range for approval:

Projects costing between ₹100 crore and ₹500 crore are directly approved by NCT, while projects exceeding ₹500 crore are referred to the Ministry of Power. 

Consultation with stakeholders:

NCT interacts with Regional Power Committees (RPCs) to gather regional transmission needs. 

Focus on renewable energy:

A significant aspect of NCT's work involves facilitating the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects into the grid.
