๐Ÿšจ SAFETY MOMENT | Improper Use of Safety Harness ๐Ÿšจ Monday, 09 March 2026

Working at height is one of the highest-risk activities in construction, oil & gas, and industrial environments. A safety harness is designed to protect workers from fatal falls, but only when it is used correctly and attached to a secure anchor point.

Improper use of a safety harness can quickly turn a routine task into a life-threatening situation.

Failure to secure the harness properly can lead to:

⚠ Fall from height

⚠ Fatal injury

⚠ Equipment failure

⚠ Serious workplace incidents

In today’s observation, a worker was wearing a safety harness incorrectly and the lanyard was not connected to an approved anchor point. While the PPE was present, the protection it was supposed to provide was ineffective.

This situation could have resulted in a severe fall or fatal incident if not addressed immediately.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Ask Yourself:

If you noticed this situation on your site… what would you do?

✅ Intervene immediately

✅ Correct the harness attachment to an approved anchor point

✅ Stop the unsafe activity if necessary

✅ Discuss the potential fall hazards with the team

✅ Ensure harness inspection before use

✅ Reinforce proper working-at-height procedures and supervision

Safety harnesses are not just equipment — they are a life-saving system when used correctly. Proper training, inspection, and correct anchoring are essential to ensure workers are fully protected when working at height.

๐Ÿ” Remember:

❌ No Anchor = No Protection

✅ Proper Fit + Secure Anchor = Fall Prevention

Let’s commit to protecting ourselves and our coworkers by following safe work practices every time we work at height.
