Ocimum (Tulsi)


Common Name :
Babui Tulsi, Tulsa
Botanical Name :
Ocimum basilicum
Uses :
Cosmetics, toiletries, pharmaceuticals, perfumes and aromatherapy.
CIMAP varieties :
 Cim-Soumya, Vikar Sudha
Climate :
Subtropical-tropical, sensitive to frost.
Soil :
Well drained, levelled soil.
Chemical Constituents:
Methyl chavicol, linalool
Propagation :
Through seeds by raising nursery and later on transplanting into the field.
1 kg seed is required for 1 ha.
Transplanting :
Transplanting in done in the month of March and April at a spacing of 45X30 cm (Row X Plant). It is 85-90 days crop land can be planted in between two crops.
Manures and Fertilizers :
10-15 ton of FYM or 5 ton vermicompost/ha at the time of field preparation. P and K @ 40:40: kg/ha, prior to transplanting and 80 kg/ha N in there splits after the establishment of the plants.
Irrigation :
First irrigation just after transplanting and remaining when required, generally grown as rainfed crop.
Harvesting :
The first harvest is taken 90-95 days after plant- ing and subsequently harvest can also between after 65-75 days interval. The crop planted in February-March and May-June, are ready for harvest in April-May and August-September, respectively.
Yield :
It is estimated that on an average 15-20 herbage/ha can be obtained on distillation 100 Kg oil/ha can be obtained.
Economics :
Expenditure = Rs. 15,000/ha.
Total income = Rs.75,000/ha.
Net Income  = Rs. 50,000/ha.
