Some types of microbiology in water include:

Protozoa

Single-celled organisms that are usually found in surface water bodies. They can range in size from 1 micrometer to several millimeters.

Escherichia coli

A bacterium that is commonly found in feces and is an indicator of water and food quality.

Salmonella

A pathogenic bacteria that is commonly found in wastewater.

Campylobacter jejuni

A bacteria that can be found in contaminated drinking water and can cause infections that lead to diarrhea, fever, cramping, and pain.

Clostridium perfringens

A bacteria that forms spores that allow it to survive longer than other bacteria, such as coliforms, E. coli, or Enterococci. It is used as an indicator of past fecal pollution.

Enterococci

A type of fecal bacteria that is an indicator of water quality. Their presence in recreational water indicates that there might be dangerous contamination in the water.

Total coliforms

An indicator of water quality because they can be indirectly associated with fecal pollution.

Coli tests are a routine microbiological analysis that is used to detect fecal contamination, assess water quality, and monitor water qu

ality in distribution.
