WWF-India EIACP launches nationwide Green Diwali campaign from 20 October to 8 November 2026, appeals to citizens to celebrate a cracker-free Diwali
In collaboration with the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, WWF-India's Program Centre - Resource Partner (PC-RP) has launched a nationwide Green Diwali campaign from 20.10.2026 to 08.11.2026. The campaign urges citizens to refrain from bursting firecrackers and celebrate a clean and green Diwali in line with Mission LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment). The campaign will reach out to schools, colleges, educational institutions, resident welfare associations, and local communities. Special attention will be given to the 130 cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Under this campaign, citizens are being encouraged to take a pledge for a Green Diwali, or an eco-friendly Diwali. This includes not burning firecrackers, encouraging family and neighbors to do the same, using diyas and low-energy lighting, avoiding single-use plastic, segregating waste, and choosing locally produced products. Educational institutions and community groups are urged to organize pledge campaigns during assemblies, classes, rallies, and community meetings.
Citizens are also encouraged to participate in WWF-India's Carbon Footprint Survey to understand how their daily activities and consumption impact the environment and adopt more sustainable habits. The survey is available here: https://wwfindiawebgis.in/Carbon_Footprint/Carbon_Footprint.html Schools, colleges, EIACP centres, community groups and individuals participating in the campaign are requested to share details of their activities through this online form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15hDbjbqZzeo68kNjAxeHQA_SMIQ7lUlPdvCIi-gvwdY/viewform
Submissions should include the name and location of the institution or organization, a description and date of the activity, the number of participants taking the pledge, geo-tagged photographs, and a brief report. Selected entries may be featured on EIACP websites and social media platforms.
