Do you know how NIFS/NIFPS protects a power transformer from fire? 🔥

⚡ Do you know how NIFS/NIFPS protects a power transformer from fire? 🔥

A major internal fault in an oil-filled transformer can lead to a dangerous fire or even a tank explosion. This is where the Nitrogen Injection Fire Protection System (NIFPS) plays a vital role.

⚙️ How does it work?

🔹 Differential Relay detects internal electrical faults.

🔹 Buchholz Relay detects certain internal faults and abnormal gas/oil movement.

🔹 Pressure Relief Device (PRD) responds to excessive tank pressure.

🔹 The protection system initiates the designed sequence of breaker tripping, oil draining, conservator isolation and nitrogen injection.

🛡️ The objective? To reduce the risk of transformer explosion and help suppress fire.

💡 Knowledge Check: Do you know the exact operating sequence of NIFPS in your substation?
