Greenko Wins at Asian Power Awards 2026 for Renewable Energy Achievements
The company secured three major accolades across wind, solar, and pumped storage projects.
Greenko won three awards at the Asian Power Awards 2026: Wind Power Project of the Year - India, Operational Efficiency Initiative of the Year - Silver, and Standby Power Plant of the Year - Gold. The wins went to three of the group’s companies: Greenko – Skeiron Renewable Energy Amidyala Pvt. Ltd., Greenko Energies Private Limited, and Greenko Energy Projects Private Limited, respectively.
Greenko – Skeiron Renewable Energy Amidyala Pvt. Ltd. won Wind Power Project of the Year - India in the Asian Power Awards 2026 for its 226.8 MW Amidyala Wind Power Plant turnaround. The plant shifted to an in-house operation and maintenance model on 1 January 2024 to tackle OEM spare parts shortages and poor technical support.
The team developed internal repair capabilities and created an on-site repair centre that delivered significant cost savings and improved operational efficiency. Machine availability increased from 97% to 98.1% following the transition. The plant also accomplished an industry-first manual, crane-less gearbox de-erection and re-erection on Suzlon S111 turbines. Advanced digital systems, such as real-time monitoring and condition-based diagnostics, supported these reliability improvements.
Greenko Energies Private Limited won Operational Efficiency Initiative of the Year - Silver in the Asian Power Awards 2026 for an enterprise-wide engineering initiative across its solar portfolio. The programme focused on extracting extra value from existing assets rather than building new capacity.
Engineering interventions including asset refurbishment, daily performance management protocols, transformer inter-changeability, inverter cooling enhancements, and tracker optimisation generated additional annual renewable energy. These measures increased revenue whilst extending equipment life and reducing operational risks without requiring additional land or major infrastructure additions.
Greenko Energy Projects Private Limited won Standby Power Plant of the Year - Gold in the Asian Power Awards 2026 for the Pinnapuram 1,680 MW Standalone Pumped Storage Project in Andhra Pradesh. Designed to deliver dispatchable clean energy, the project features eight reversible Francis pump-turbine units capable of delivering continuous peak power.
The facility leverages energy market arbitrage by pumping water to an upper reservoir when solar power is abundant and releasing it to generate power during peak demand, supporting grid stability.
The Asian Power Awards, dubbed the "Oscars" of the power industry, honours companies that have taken innovative and game-changing steps to address the effects of the climate crisis and meet the growing demand for energy. It is a prestigious event in the power sector that recognises and celebrates the innovative and ground-breaking projects and initiatives in the power sector.
