The AM Green Ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India

The AM Green Ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India is a green ammonia production facility that will use renewable energy to convert a urea plant into a green ammonia production facility:

Goals: The project's goals include:

Reaching 1 million tons of production annually by 2026 and 5 million tons by 2030

Supporting green hydrogen goals in India and Europe

Aiding global decarbonization

Achieving net zero targets in India and OECD markets

Production: The plant will use renewable energy from the grid to produce green ammonia. The process involves:

Splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrolyzers

Combining the hydrogen with nitrogen

Compressing and cooling the mixture

Separating the ammonia from the air at high temperature and pressure

Partnerships: AM Green has partnered with:

John Cockerill: For 1.3 GW of advanced pressurized alkaline electrolyzers

NTPC: For a 25-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) covering half of the required power

Gentari: For the remaining power supply

Offtake terms: AM Green has agreed to offtake terms with:

Yara

Keppel

Uniper

Production start: Production is set to start in the second half of 2026.

Exports: Most of the production will be exported to European markets.
