HIRA - Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Identifies hazards, assesses risks and establishes suitable control measures. It's the big picture - covers the entire workplace, all activities. Proactive, done before work starts and reviewed periodically. Output: Risk Register.
SOP - Standard Operating Procedure
Defines the standard method for performing a task safely and consistently. For routine, repetitive jobs. Focus is consistency, quality + safety. Output: SOP Manual. Eg: Operating forklift, using fire extinguisher.
SWP - Safe Work Procedure
Provides practical requirements and precautions for carrying out a specific work activity safely. For high-risk / non-routine activities. Focus is PPE, permits, precautions. Output: Safe work instructions.
JSA - Job Safety Analysis
Breaks a job into steps, identifies hazards at each step and defines the required controls. Done immediately before the job at the worksite - last check. Output: JSA Sheet.
