PM launches global initiative 'Lifestyle for the Environment- LiFE ...
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) of India has a global mass movement called Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). The goal of Mission LiFE is to encourage people to live in a way that is environmentally conscious and sustainable. The movement aims to create a mass movement that prioritizes conservation, moderation, and environmental protection.
Here are some tips for a more sustainable lifestyle:
Reduce waste: Avoid single-use plastics, recycle, and reduce food waste.
Conserve water: Reuse water for cleaning and watering plants, and fix leaks in taps, flushes, and water pipes.
Use less energy: Switch off appliances when not in use, use LED bulbs, and keep your air conditioner at 24 degrees.
Commute sustainably: Walk, cycle, or use public transportation instead of driving.
Support the environment: Support environmental causes, sustainable businesses, and vote.
Plant trees: Planting trees can improve air quality and reduce the heat island effect.
Use reusable bags: Use cloth bags instead of plastic bags when shopping.
Use reusable water bottles: Invest in a reusable water bottle to reduce plastic waste.
The movement led by India to encourage people to use resources mindfully and deliberately instead of consuming them destructively. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) launched Mission LiFE in October 2022 to create awareness and advocate for behavioral changes to protect the environment.
Here are some examples of actions that can be taken to support LiFE:
Use public transportation or a bicycle for short trips
Use LED bulbs or tube lights
Switch off appliances when not in use
Use a solar water heater or solar cooker
Use biogas for cooking and electricity
Keep the air conditioner temperature at 24°C
Use pressure cookers instead of other cookware
Use cloth bags instead of plastic bags
Reuse glass containers or packaging plastic items as storage boxes
Use non-plastic eco-friendly cutlery
A village is considered a LiFE Village if it meets the following criteria:
The gram panchayat has passed a resolution to make the village a LiFE Village
At least 75% of households in the village practice at least 10 LiFE actions
All public institutions in the village practice and promote at least 10 LiFE actions
All public places in the village are free of littered waste
