This poster makes one big point very clear: Waste management is not a housekeeping issue, it's a safety issue. The tagline at the top says it: Safer workplaces. Healthier people. A cleaner environment.

You can break it down into 4 blocks to explain to your team:

1. WHY IT IS A CRITICAL PILLAR OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY

On the left side, 5 reasons why we must take it seriously:

PREVENTS INJURIES: Proper handling reduces slips, trips, cuts, punctures and exposure to harmful materials. Most slip/trip cases start with waste on the floor.

CONTROLS HEALTH RISKS: Stops exposure to hazardous substances, biological waste, harmful fumes or contaminants that cause illness.

REDUCES FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Correct segregation and safe storage prevent ignition sources and chemical reactions. Mixing incompatible wastes is a common fire cause.

PROTECTS THE ENVIRONMENT: Prevents pollution, soil and water contamination and supports a healthy ecosystem.

BUILDS A SAFER WORKPLACE CULTURE: Encourages accountability, awareness and safe work practices for everyone. When the site is clean, people work safer.

2. THE RISKS OF POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

On the right side - what happens when we don't do it well:

Slips, trips and falls

Exposure to hazardous waste

Fire and explosion

Inhalation of harmful fumes and dust

Cuts and punctures from sharps, metal, broken items

Environmental pollution

The yellow highlight is your key message: POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT DOESN'T JUST HARM THE ENVIRONMENT... IT PUTS LIVES AT RISK.

3. GOOD WASTE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

At the bottom, the 6-step flow you should follow on site every day:

1. SEGREGATE: Separate waste at source - general, recyclable, hazardous, biological, e-waste, etc. Don't mix.

2. USE CORRECT CONTAINERS: Labeled, covered and suitable for each waste type. The image shows green, yellow, red, blue bins for a reason.

3. HANDLE SAFELY: Use appropriate PPE and safe lifting techniques. No bare hands for hazardous waste.

4. DISPOSE PROPERLY: Use licensed waste collectors and follow legal and site procedures. The green truck with the recycle logo.

5. REDUCE & RECYCLE: Minimize waste and recover where possible. This is the REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE sign in the top right.

6. TRAIN & MONITOR: Ensure everyone is trained, and regularly audit and improve waste practices.

4. The bottom line

SAFE PEOPLE MANAGE WASTE RESPONSIBLY!

Think Safety, Reduce Waste, Protect Health, Preserve Our Environment.

And the final footer: WASTE MANAGEMENT IS NOT JUST ABOUT CLEANLINESS... IT'S ABOUT PEOPLE, SAFETY AND A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

How to use it in a toolbox talk:

"Look around this area. If waste is on the floor, that's not just untidy, that's a slip hazard, a fire hazard, and a health hazard. Who knows what waste we have here? How do we segregate it? Which bin is for which? If we manage waste rights, we prevent injuries before they happen."

This links perfectly with the Fish Bone you shared earlier - poor waste management will show up under Environment, Procedures and Management causes. 🦺🚦⚠️🌡️🏗️🚨🔋🚥🚧🗼⛑️
