Room Lux Calculation
The basic lighting calculation is:
✔E= N × F × UF × MF ÷ A
Where:
✔️ E = Required illuminance (lux)
✔️N = Number of lamps/luminaires
✔️F = Lumens per lamp/luminaire
✔️UF = Utilization Factor
✔️MF = Maintenance Factor
✔️A = Room area (m²)
✅ Example
Room size = 6 m × 5 m
Area:
✔️A= 6 × 5=30m^2
Required illuminance = 300 lux
Assume:
✔️LED panel = 3,600 lm
✔️UF = 0.7
✔️MF = 0.8
✅ Required number of lights:
✔️N = E × A ÷ F × UF × MF
✔️N= 300 × 30 ÷ 3600 × 0.7 × 0.8
✔️ N = 4.46
So, select 5 LED panels of 3,600 lumens.
Practical point: Actual design should also consider mounting height, room reflectance, luminaire spacing, glare, and the required lux level for the room's use.
